SWASTH

A call for compassion

ABOUT

According to the World Health Organization, 649 million people in India alone do not have access to basic medicines such as supplements. In a growing world with a rapid rate of population growth, the importance of medicine as a basic necessity has never been greater. However, the 'medicine disparity' is shocking. People in higher economic strata often have a large amount of medicine that is wasted due to poor storage or non-usage, while people in lower economic strata struggle to get basic medicines.

'Swasth', a Hindi word, translates to 'healthy' in English. This project aims to improve the health of as many people possible. Swasth was started by a high school student, Arjun Shukla, in the Dhirubhai Ambani International School. Swasth aims to collect unused and unexpired medicine from people to donate it to a non-profit organization, the Setu Charitable Trust, for the treatment of underprivileged patients.

NEWS

Donation by Cipla Inc.

We recently had the honour and privilege of working with a prestigious pharmaceutical company, Cipla Inc., on our project. Working with Mr Anantha Padiyar, the Vice-President for Quality, and Dr. Ranjana Pathak, the Global Head for Quality, we were able to obtain and supply the Setu Charitable Trust with 135 kilograms of basic medicines, such as health supplements, vitamins, fever medication and pain medication. It is hard for us to express our immense gratitude and we would like to thank Dr Pathak, Mr Padiyar and all those from Cipla Inc. who took the time out of their busy schedules to help us!

First Distribution of Medicine

All 135 kilograms of medicine were couriered to the Setu Charitable Trust's operating grounds in the village of Parbhani in Maharashtra. These medicines were distributed to the local population by a qualified doctor representing the Setu Charitable Trust and the Maharashtra State AIDs Control Society in a medical camp over the span of three days.
